Job Description
Job Title: Accounts Payable Specialist

Department: Financial Reporting, Audit & Compliance

Status: Regular Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Location: Nashville, Tennessee International Headquarters

Purpose and Scope

The Accounts Payable Specialist shall be responsible for maintaining appropriate records of all accounts payable transactions, with a proven ability to work and respond under pressure. The person should possess a keen attention to detail, complete tasks with precision, and have the ability to make independent decisions while exercising good judgement. The successful Accounts Payable Specialist will combine technical skills with good verbal and written communication skills to provide high quality service to Gideon staff, vendors, and international constituents. The position will strive to build a continuously improving accounting system with integrity for the needs of the organization.

Essential Job Functions
• Prepare and process payment requests in a timely and accurate manner.
• Process USA and foreign electronic payments through ACH and Wires.
• Validate proper authorization of payment and G/L coding.
• Resolve payment process issues.
• Process electronic expense reports for payment in accordance with Travel & Expense policies.
• Handle vendor inquiries regarding outstanding invoices as appropriate.
• Efficiently complete various account reconciliations
• Obtain W-9 forms for appropriate new vendors to assist with 1099 filing requirements.
• Support the monthly financial close process.
• Cross training of other job duties in accounting.
• Handle confidential data.
• Assist in preparation of annual audit.
• Participate in daily morning staff devotions; on a rotating basis serve by praying and reading Scripture in support of devotion leader.
• Perform related and unrelated duties as required.

Reports To: Manager, Finance & Accounting

Work Environment and Time Requirements

Climate-controlled office environment

8-hour workday

Variations in work volume sometimes require extended working hours

Hybrid remote and in office schedule

Travel required (none)

Preferred Qualifications

4-year bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred

1-2 years of experience with accounting processes including accounts payable is preferred

PC experience, especially in Microsoft Office applications and Oracle-NetSuite or similar software

Mature, responsible, driven and able to work independently with minimal supervision

Successful completion of a drug and background screen
