Duties: The primary duty of the the ESL/Bilingual teacher is to provide basic academic instruction in subjects to identified students requiring specialized instruction, using research based programs to improve academic levels.

Responsibilities: The ESL/Bilingual teacher is responsible for but not limited to:

1. Administer achievement tests and evaluates test results

2. Provide assistance to classroom teachers on bilingual techniques, methods and materials

3. Collaborates with school staff for the purpose of planning and developing appropriate instruction

4. Facilitating and attending meetings related to the academic success of students

5. Demonstrate effective communication skills

6. Completing appropriate reports

7. Plans, organizes and provides instruction in English and in native language of students in the State Standards for Illinois and English Language Proficiency Standards

8. Administers academic and language assessments for the purpose of screening and evaluating student's progress in meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition

9. Maintains complete and accurate records of student's progress and evidence of growth and progress

10. Understands and complies with the policies, rules and regulations regarding the education of bilingual education students

11. Advocates for the program needs that are required to meet the learning needs of bilingual students

12. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated

13.Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students

14. Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior

15. Encourages students to set and maintain appropriate standards of classroom behavior

16. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved

17. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required

18. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities

19. Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day

20. Facilitates frequent and effective home-school communication by coordinating: conferences, written communication, parent trainings, and other meetings/events

21. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence

22. Attends staff meetings and serves on building/district committees

23. Analyze student performance, program effectiveness and make appropriate recommendations.

24. Assumes responsibility for other duties as assigned.
