Requirements and Qualifications
  • NJ Elementary School Teaching Certification: (PK-3, K-6 or N-8 )
  • Spanish speaking required
  • Evidence of passing OPI and WPT or willing to sit for both tests
  • Willing to enroll in Bilingual/Bicultural education program (12 credits) Tuition reimbursement available as per HEA Contract
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of effective teaching methods and developmentally appropriate classroom activities
  • Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Criminal history background check
  • Proof of US citizenship or legal resident alien status

Responsibilities
  • Work in conjunction with district's pilot dual language program staff
  • Coordinate classroom tasks as outlined by the building principal
  • Work to achieve the New Jersey Learning Standards and district educational goals and objectives by promoting active learning in the classroom using board-adopted curriculum and other appropriate learning activities
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
  • Set specific objectives wherever possible in lesson preparation and weekly lesson plans; and carry through presentation to effectively achieve these objectives
  • Monitor students' academic progress and personal growth toward stated objectives of instruction. Effectively communicate standards and progress with parents regularly
  • Maintain productive relationships with parents and other staff members
  • Maintain records of students' educational progress in the Genesis system and summarize as appropriate
  • Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and resolving learning problems
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a classroom climate conducive to learning
  • Plan class activities and lesson presentations that are age-appropriate for the class and meet the individual needs, interests and ability levels of all students
  • Maintain professional competence and pursue continuous improvement through in-service education and other professional growth activities
  • Participate in school-level planning, faculty meetings/committees, and other school system groups
  • Make effective use of community resources to enhance the instructional program
  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations and board policy
  • Perform other duties within the scope of employment and certification as may be assigned by district administration
