The role of part-time ESL tutor (50% FTE) will work with individuals and small groups of students in specific courses or academic skill areas such as reading, writing, grammar, pronunciation, etc. As a professional tutor with English as a second language-specific credentials, this position will provide tutoring and supportive resources to non-native English-speaking students to prepare them for success in their classes. The ESL Tutor must be able to communicate clearly and concisely (verbally and in writing) as well as to recognize variations in student backgrounds, abilities, and learning styles. The ESL Tutor reports to the AANAPISI Grant Coordinator.
This part-time position is grant funded for 4 years with potential for continuation. Hours are variable based on student and business needs.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor's degree required.
• Tutoring certification preferred.
• 1 year of relevant work experience required including experience working with MLL/ESL students.
• Experience with online Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas); and video-conferencing systems (e.g., Zoom).
• Experience working with people from diverse cultures.
• Demonstrated tutoring skills, preferably in an online modality.
• Ability to speak and write effectively.
• Excellent people skills.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
The ESL Tutor provides support in the following areas:
Support students with reading comprehension skills through individual and group meetings in addition to the application of appropriate resources.
Support students with writing and presentation skills through individual and group meetings in addition to the application of appropriate resources.
Support students with approaches to studying and exam preparation from an ESL perspective.
Assist students with medical terminology and other advanced terminology in the English language.
All other duties as assigned.

Begin and end tutoring sessions on

Adapt to tutoring assignments and scheduling
Attend meetings as needed.
Participate in training on an ongoing basis as

Maintain knowledge in tutoring content
