English Language Development (ELD) Teacher

Reports to: School Principal

Job Summary: The ELD Teacher works with English learners to develop their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in English. This role includes delivering targeted instruction, collaborating with classroom teachers to support English Learners across subjects, and monitoring students' language development progress.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and deliver ELD lessons aligned with district, state, and federal standards.
  • Use strategies such as scaffolding, differentiation, and visual ids to meet students' diverse language proficiency levels.
  • Integrate language instruction with academic content to support students' achievement in core subjects.

Assessment and Monitoring:
  • Administer language proficiency assessments to determine students' needs and monitor progress.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and prepare reports for stakeholders (e.g., parents, school staff, and administrators).

Collaboration and Advocacy:
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to design inclusive lessons and provide accommodations for English learners in mainstream classrooms.
  • Participate in Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) meetings for English learners to ensure appropriate language supports are in place.
  • Advocate for English learners by promoting equity and understanding of cultural diversity within the school community.

Professional Development and Compliance:
  • Stay current with best practices in language acquisition, culturally responsive teaching, and instructional technology.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws related to English learners (e.g., Title III and ESSA requirements).
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and parent-teacher conferences as required.

Education and Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree in education. (Master's preferred)
  • State teaching certification with an ESOL certification.

Experience:
  • Previous experience teaching English learners, preferably in a K-12 setting.
  • Knowledge of second language acquisition theories and strategies.

Skills:
  • Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in instructional technology and online learning platforms.

Work Environment:
  • Classroom, small group, and one-on-one instruction settings.
  • Interaction with diverse student populations and collaborative teams.
