Job Description
Job Summary:

The Bilingual Floor Nurse assists primary care providers in the care and treatment of patients and functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary health care team within the scope of his or her medical practice. Responsibilities include administering quality nursing care and immunizations in accordance with established nursing standards and fully documenting all care received by the patients within the electronic health record.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  1. Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; provides examination gowns and drapes; helps patients to position themselves for the examination and/or treatment; arranges examining room instruments, supplies and equipment.
  2. Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviews and/or records medical history; takes vital signs; and confirms the purpose of the visit or treatment.
  3. Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; sterilizing medical instruments; and other assigned clinical duties.
  4. Documents delivery of health care and nursing process in accordance with the clinic's policies and procedures in a timely, accurate, and consistent manner.
  5. Administers all medications and vaccines accurately and documents in electronic health records.
  6. Assists in maintaining an efficient, safe, secure, orderly, and aseptic environment of care for all patients and employees.
  7. Initiates referrals to other sources of health care as necessary.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Duties 1 through 7 are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job. All other job duties are secondary functions.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse, in addition to the above duties and responsibilities:

1. Educates the patient and family/significant others about diagnosis and the plan of care. Acts as a resource for facilitating communication when necessary.

2. Interacts with clinic personnel and assists providers to ensure optimal patient care and to obtain optimum patient flow and increased patient satisfaction.

3. Performs laboratory functions according to Provider's orders including venipunctures (excluding jugular) for laboratory testing.

4. Participates in collaboration with the health care team in identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing patient and family needs to develop a plan of care.

5. Performs other duties as assigned.

As a Registered Nurse, in addition to the above duties and responsibilities:

1. Coordinates the delivery of patient care provided by the health care team.

2. Coordinates and delegates the timely processing of patient referrals, prescribed medications, and other identified needs of the patient.

3. Acts as a resource within the clinic to other staff members in regards to patient care.

4. Acts as triage for the clinic assessing patient's conditions and symptoms.

5. Keeps abreast of new information and materials by reviewing clearinghouse information, newsletters, and periodicals.

6. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information in accordance to HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to comply with all occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA).
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking and problem solving skills to address clinic's needs.
  • Ability to interpret oral and written instructions and do appropriate follow-up.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Must have exceptional time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to constructively participate in quality improvement efforts.
  • Ability to actively participate in marketing and outreach activities when requested and emergency response events when required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) verbal and written skills.
  • LPN and RN must have knowledge and ability to practice in accordance with the State of Nebraska's Nurse Practice Act.
  • Knowledge of community health resources for alternate health services.
  • Knowledge of community health nursing principles and practices and clinic functions.
  • Ability to navigate EHR, Nesiis, and communicable disease reporting systems.

Education and Experience, Licensure and Certification:
  • Nursing degree from an accredited college/university required.
  • Two years of nursing experience in a clinical setting or hospital preferred.
  • Experience in medical/surgical nursing and immunizations preferred.
  • Must have a current unrestricted nursing license in the State of Nebraska.
  • Current certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to utilize own transportation for work purposes.
