Job Summary:
Responsible for the overall operation of the Grocery department, including maximizing sales while achieving labor goals, developing the grocery staff, controlling expenses, merchandising and displays, and maintaining inventory levels for Grocery, Frozen Food, and Dairy. Ensures a friendly customer shopping environment and favorable working conditions for employees while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
Essential Functions of the Position:
Develop projected weekly work plans based on projected sales.
Write staffing schedules and monitor plans, making appropriate adjustments as needed.
Assign duties to employees on a shift, schedule break periods, approve days off and vacation requests, and make scheduling adjustments based on business demands.
Maintain all merchandising standards, display presentations, and POS standards.
Monitor daily inventory levels to ensure appropriate merchandise stock levels, proper merchandise presentations, and POS signing.
Ensure the selling floor is adequately stocked and monitor product quality, checking for proper rotation.
Assign priorities and objectives to department staff, directly supervise task completion, and monitor productivity to ensure efficiency through direct observation and review of production outputs.
Assist in training new employees and coach and motivate staff to promote a team environment.
Evaluate employee performance, providing coaching and motivation to ensure employee success. Conducts internal interviews, promotes employees as needed, and administers disciplinary action, including recommending termination when necessary.
Listens to customer complaints, examines returned merchandise, and resolves problems to restore and promote good customer relations.
Administers the "It's Showtime" Customer Service program, coaching, mentoring, and disciplining as needed to ensure a pleasant shopping experience.
Monitors the reporting of customer and employee accidents, ensuring accurate and timely completion of paperwork.
Review department and store trends, recommending and initiating changes to maximize goals and objectives.
Troubleshoot and choose the appropriate course of action to correct equipment issues.
Oversee and complete monthly inventories in perimeter departments and quarterly full-store inventories.
Perform Store Director duties in their absence as assigned.
Open and close the department according to established procedures and produce necessary reports daily.
Ensure compliance with company and department policies, operating procedures, and applicable laws.
Contact appropriate vendors and monitor work performed to ensure all store equipment is in proper working condition.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge:
Comprehensive understanding of grocery retail operations, including merchandising, inventory management, and sales forecasting.
Familiarity with applicable laws and regulations regarding grocery store operations.
Knowledge of POS systems and inventory management software.
Understanding of customer service best practices and strategies to enhance customer engagement.
Skills:
Strong leadership and managerial skills to effectively lead a team and ensure high performance.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with staff, customers, and vendors.
Problem-solving skills to address and resolve operational and customer service issues promptly.
Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities efficiently.
Abilities:
Ability to develop and implement strategic plans to achieve department goals.
Ability to analyze sales data and market trends to make informed decisions.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle high-pressure situations.

Physical Requirements:
Stand and walk for extended periods, typically 8-hour shifts.
Lift and carry items up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Perform repetitive motions such as reaching, bending, stooping, squatting, and handling products.
Ability to handle and operate necessary equipment and tools.
Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
Maintain clear communication with customers and team members.
Move quickly and efficiently to assist customers and manage workload.
Maintain physical stamina to work in a fast-paced environment.
Work Conditions:
Work Hours: Ability to work flexible hours, including some weekends and holidays, as needed.
Environment: Indoor, climate-controlled, with adequate lighting and ventilation.
Primary Work Stations: Work within the grocery store environments, which include various sections such as the sales floor, backrooms, and exterior areas.
Dress Code: Professional and presentable attire as determined by store management, including a name tag, company-issued shirts, hats, jackets, or personal shirts that are black, burgundy, or blue, in good repair, and not faded.
Exposure: May be exposed to moving mechanical parts and cleaning chemicals.
Noise Level: Usually low to moderate, with occasional loud periods from customers, store announcements, and equipment.
Interaction: Constant interaction with customers and team members in a fast-paced retail environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Over five years of experience as a Relief Manager and Person in Charge is preferred. Supervisory experience is required. Previous experience in retail is an added advantage.
