Job Summary:
Responsible for the physical safety, security and welfare of all facility residents Responsible for monitoring residents in the areas of compliance with all rules policies, and procedures. Responsible for overseeing the cleanliness and smooth operations of the facility. Responsible for managing facility's response to emergencies.
Job Responsibilities:
Responsible for the physical safety, security and welfare of all residents. Monitor residents in the areas of compliance with all rules, policies and procedures. Take disciplinary action as necessary making appropriate suggestions based on Star of Hope policies to correct inappropriate behaviors by residents.
Oversee the cleanliness and smooth operations of the facility. Monitor Chore/Work Therapy assignments. Provide services with actions and attitudes consistent with a Christ-like manner.
Manage facility's response to emergencies. Provide crisis intervention and support to residents using Biblical principles to minister to their needs. Facilitate conflict resolution between residents and provide mediation. Communicate relevant information to management and case managers immediately and thoroughly.
Assist residents with daily needs (i.e. - mail, toiletries, OTC meds, questions and concerns, etc.).
Through observation and audits, ensure the proper functioning of safety and loss prevention measures and security systems.
Promote good relations between residents and staff by maintaining an atmosphere of cooperation, service to others, and a balance of "grace and truth" consistent with the "Christ Centered community" central to the Star of Hope mission statement.
Assist management in completing and maintaining all necessary rosters, logs, folders, Significant Event Reports and other reports to ensure the smooth operation of Resident Services department.
Communicate, support, and work with other departments to ensure the integrity of care of all clients, including referring clients with specific needs to Case Managers, Intake Coordinators, Spiritual Life Coordinator, Management or others as needed.
Greet volunteers and Church groups recording all names and required information and working within all published guidelines for daily activities and services to clients.
Provide advice, admonition, and encouragement from a Biblical perspective when interacting with clients.
Report unsafe activities, conditions in all areas of the facility to Management.
Other Job Responsibilities:
Participate in Ministry and prayer activities, as appropriate.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education, Skills & Experience: High School Diploma or GED with 2 years of experience in social services or related field required. Bilingual (Spanish/English) required. Prefer 2 years of college or Associate's Degree in social services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of and experience with substance abuse issues, mental health conditions, and homelessness preferred. Working knowledge in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Power Point, and Excel) required. Valid Texas Driver's License with acceptable driving record and current liability insurance.
Be able to work respectfully, professionally and in a Christ-like manner with everyone, able to maintain required residents/staff boundaries and possess a willingness to serve the Lord in a ministry that deals with homeless men, women and children.
Good reading, writing, time management and ability to multitask. Detail oriented with strong communication skills. Must be able to clearly communicate information about residents' policies, and procedures. Good judgement in dealing with the residents and confidential matters. Ability to problem-solve, work well without supervision. Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with employees, managers, residents, volunteers and outside organizations that interact with Star of Hope. Professional appearance and behavior.
Equipment Used: General Office Supplies (Calculator, Telephone, Stapler, etc.), laminator, Computer Equipment (Monitor, Keyboard, etc.), and Copier/Fax/Printer, Software: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Sphere (Inventory supply) and SharePoint.
Work Environment: Work environment encompasses the entire facility. Business hours to include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift to meet the business needs of the mission. Occasional visits to program sites may be required. Exposure to infectious diseases, poor hygiene, drug usage, verbal and physical abuse and other emergency situations relative to the homeless population is normal. Jeans with no holes/fraying may only be worn on Fridays and only as long as a Star of Hope shirt (T-shirt, polo-style or sweatshirt) is worn.
Relations with Others: Frequent face to face discussions with individuals, immediate peers, immediate manager and direct reports. Frequent use of electronic mail. Frequent contact with residents and volunteers. Frequent contact with peers and managers in other departments. Occasional telephone conversations and written letters and memos.
Physical Requirements: Medium work with lifting of up to 30 pounds. Constant standing, talking, hearing, field of vision and depth perception. Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, climbing stairs, use of fingers, repetitive motions, handling, and color vision. Occasional crawling, sitting, pushing, pulling, feeling, lifting, smelling and driving.
Other: Able to support through word and action the Star of Hope Christ-centered Mission statement, Faith Statement, and the mission's core values of integrity, excellence and commitment to life change.
