Position Summary:
We are seeking a Spanish-English bilingual Research Data Associate to collect data and support Dr. Ortiz's intergenerational health equity research projects in the Department of Pediatrics at NYU Langone Health / NYU Grossman School of Medicine, and NYU Langone Brooklyn. The Research Data Associate will work with Medical Center staff and departments, including Directors, Managers, Research Staff, and interfaces with patients and their families.
The RDA will mainly work under the supervision of Dr. Robin Ortiz through the Department of Pediatrics, and in collaboration with her research team, on multiple projects. Dr. Ortiz's Caregiver Cardiovascular Health Study aims to understand how the caregiver-child relationship and environment impacts adult caregiver cardiovascular health. The study responsibilities for the RDA will involve recruiting, screening, and conducting research visits with participants. Another project, NOURISH, collaborates with God's Love We Deliver (GLWD), a community-based organization that provides medically tailored meals (MTM) to chronically ill persons located in New York City, and to adult clients' dependents (e.g., children) in the home. One program, for examples, includes gestational diabetes and so supports pregnant persons and their families. The NOURISH study aims to connect NYULH patients with GLWD services and also aims to screen current GLWD clients and families for medical and social needs to be addressed with the support of a community health worker. The study will collect mixed methods data (quantitative surveys, qualitative interviews, and biospecimen collection for storage) for exploring the mechanisms underpinning the hypothesis that NOURISH will reduce stress and improve the cardiovascular health of GLWD clients/NYU patients (caregivers AND children) as measured by increased CVH scores and decreased dysregulation of cardiovascular-stress pathophysiology.
Job Responsibilities:
Enrollment duties - The RDA will recruit research participants and obtain informed consent. The RDA will track participants, call eligible participants, and preform e-consent. The RDA will follow up with enrolled subjects to perform several assessments and measureson the telephone and in-person. The RDA may need to travel off site on occasion to visit clients to collect data if they are immobile and/or have limited access to technology. The RDA will work closely with the Community Health Worker to link clients of GLWD and/or patients of NYU with medical and social services, as needed, and follow-up on their cases.
Assessment duties - The RDA will follow all study subjects and perform all assessments at study time points. They will arrange assessments when it is most convenient for the participant, including nights and weekends if needed, by phone and in-person; therefore, flexible working hours are required. The RDA will perform anthropometric measurements including height, weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, and fruit/vegetable intake on participants (adults and children). The RDA will collect saliva, hair, and blood spot samples. They will work closely with collaborators in the outpatient Clinic. In addition, the RDA will lead one-on-one qualitative interviews with participants in English and/or Spanish.
Data duties - The RDA will create projects and instruments on RedCap with training provided as needed and will enter all assessment data into RedCap, and Excel. The RDA will assist with data cleaning and data management. They will implement efficient and secure procedures for data handling and analysis with attention to all technical aspects. RDAs will assist the PIs to code, analyze and interpret data, and write scholarly reports. Analyses and report generation may require use of statistical programming such as STATA or SPSS, as well as qualitative analysis programming such as ATLAS.ti or Dedoose, so though experience is preferred (and not required), training will be provided by Dr. Ortiz and the study team as relevant and needed.
Medical chart review duties - The RDA will complete medical chart review at study time points in order to collect vital signs, weight, and any applicable medical information. This includes using the medical record systems at Bellevue, NYU Langone Health, and NYU Langone Brooklyn, and requesting medical charts from other institutions where families may have transferred. The RDA will enter all medical chart review data into Redcap.
IRB duties - The RDA will assist the Project Coordinator with the preparation of Institutional Review Board (IRB) materials including the original protocol, amendments, updates, and renewals, as well as keeping track of all study team member requirements. The RDA will assist with the up keeping of the Study Regulations binder.
Program duties -The RDA may be responsible to translate project-related documents. The RDA will coordinate participant and walk participants through in-person visits and at-home specimen collections. The RDA will also work with children in person. Children's activities may include playing or reading.
