Job Description
The Senior Accounts Payable Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing the accounts payable process, ensuring the timely and accurate payment of invoices, proper record-keeping, and compliance with company policies and financial regulations. The role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments. Key Responsibilities Invoice Processing : Oversee the processing of incoming invoices, ensuring they are accurately matched with purchase orders and receipts before being approved for payment. Payment Management : Ensure payments are processed on time, maintaining good relationships with vendors and ensuring compliance with payment terms. Account Reconciliations : Perform monthly reconciliation of accounts payable ledgers, ensuring all transactions are correctly recorded and discrepancies are investigated and resolved. Reporting : Prepare and present accounts payable reports to senior management, including aging reports, payment forecasts, and month-end closing reports. Process Improvement : Continuously identify areas for process improvement within the accounts payable function to increase efficiency and reduce errors. Compliance and Documentation : Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and relevant tax regulations (e.g., sales tax, 1099's). Maintain accurate records for audit and regulatory purposes. System Management : Assist with the maintenance and optimization of accounts payable software and systems, ensuring that they are functioning efficiently. Ad Hoc Tasks : Assist in other finance-related duties as required, including support for month-end, year-end close processes, and audits. Qualifications Education : Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Experience : Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in accounts payable, with at least 1-2 years in a senior role. Technical Skills : Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Deltek Costpoint and Time & Expense), Microsoft Excel (advanced functions), and knowledge of ERP systems. Knowledge : Strong understanding of accounts payable procedures, accounting principles, tax regulations (e.g., sales tax, VAT), and financial reporting.
